Types of Adoptions

Domestic Adoptions

If you are interested in adopting a child within the United States, Spirit of Faith Adoptions will work with you to coordinate the process. There are various types of adoptions and services offered to residents of Ohio to include:

  • Newborn Infant Adoption:  biological parents make the courageous, voluntary decision to lovingly place their newborn infant into the arms of the adoptive family chosen to raise the child.
  • Identified Adoption: Together, biological parents and prospective adoptive parents contact Spirit of Faith Adoptions for assistance in facilitating the adoption planning and placement process in Ohio.
  • Home study services: For families that reside in the state of Ohio, Spirit of Faith Adoptions is licensed to provide pre-adoption education and home study assessment services to families pursuing adoption anywhere in the United States or abroad. Spirit of Faith Adoptions assist families with home study preparation for domestic, international, step parent and/or kinship adoption.
  • Outside of Ohio: Spirit of Faith Adoptions accepts approved home studies of families residing outside of Ohio from state licensed adoption agencies for the purposes of matching services within the Newborn Infant Adoption program.
Spirit of Faith Adoptions provides adoption matching and placement services for families residing outside of Ohio. This is referred to as interstate adoption.Interstate adoption is the adoption of a child born or residing in a state other than the one in which the adoptive parents reside. For interstate adoptions, an extra level of documentation is required as the receiving and sending state is required to give their approval to the placement pursuant to the Interstate Compact of the Placement of Children. An additional set of paperwork is required prior to the adoption and the adoptive family is to remain in Ohio until all the necessary documentation has been processed by the sending and receiving states. Final approval can take up to four weeks.

International Adoptions

Spirit of Faith Adoptions collaborates with Adoption Associates, Inc. to help coordinate adoptions from
China, Russia, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, and Nepal.

Selecting a country from which to adopt is a personal choice and families need to prayerfully make a decision prior to submitting your request to the U.S. Government for approval to bring an adopted child into the United States.

The preliminary steps for an international adoption are identical, regardless of the country from which the adoption is to occur. These steps include the completion of a home study, the submission of an application for a visa and “orphan petition” to the United States Government, and the preparation of a dossier of materials that will be submitted to the foreign government where the adoption is to occur.   After these steps, the process varies depending on the country involved. Is the process complicated? to some extent, “yes”, but no more so than the process involved in enrolling in college or obtaining a home loan.  Bear in mind that as you are gathering your background data, the effort will be well worth it when your child joins your family.   Spirit of Faith Adoptions will guide and assist you to make this part of the process as enjoyable and understandable as possible.  Please bear in mind that each country may require more stringent requirements to adopt a child from that country. Click on the flags below to review each country to see what these eligibility requirements are.
