The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services requires all families pursuing infant adoption to complete a minimum of 12 hours of pre-service adoption training. Spirit of Faith Adoptions will provide some of the adoptive parent training during our Pre-Service Training day. It is an opportunity to get acquainted with the staff at Spirit of Faith Adoptions and hear first hand what is involved in the adoption process and gain an understanding of the laws and rules in Ohio.
In addition to the pre-service training day, we require all applicants to attend one of our virtual information meetings. This may be attended prior to submitting an initial inquiry, or during the training process. This is an opportunity for new adoptive families to hear directly from families who have adopted previously, and from a birth parent who has gone through the process of placing a child through adoption. There is also an opportunity for Q & A time.
Finally, the balance of our training requirements can be completed online via Adoption Learning Partners. Click here to access their site: http://www.adoptionlearningpartners.org/search.cfm to access their website. You can register and pay for the coursework directly with Adoption Learning Partners. The required courses to complete are listed below:
- Conspicuous Families
- Building Bonds of Attachment
- Is it an Adoption Thing?
- Tough Starts: Parenting Matters
There are also optional courses available, if you choose to complete them:
- Creating a Profile that Works
- The Adoption Tax Credit
Certificates of completion will be accessible to you once you complete the entire session. Please ensure that the online training course certificates get forwarded to Ellie for your file. Ellie will ensure that a certificate of completion from the Orientation is also placed into your file, ensuring that all training requirements are documented for your home study. After the training and your home study paperwork has been received and reviewed, you will be notified about beginning the next step!
